Modified Courses Based on Conditions

If you’ve seen the slopes recently, you know that due to unseasonably warm temperatures, things are melting quickly around Tahoe. This has impacted our upper mountain terrain and we are pivoting to hosting the Luggi races on the lower mountain. We will still have different race categories, only on a new course layout.

The Lil’ Luggi course will still include one (1) lap of the lower mountain (up and down once) similar to years past but on a different course, the Big Luggi course will include three (3) laps of the lower mountain, and the Elite Luggi course will include five (5) laps of the lower mountain, with transition zones in the Start/Finish area. Courses and number of laps subject to change based on conditions.

What is SkiMo?

Ski Mountaineering – SkiMo for short – is a human-powered winter sport that combines uphill travel with downhill skiing. And this winter, SkiMo is enjoying a breakout year with its inaugural appearance in the 2026 Winter Olympics.

At Diamond Peak’s 7th annual Luggi Foeger Uphill/Downhill Festival, rather than riding the chairlifts to the top of the resort, participants will climb the slopes using whatever human-powered method they prefer – skins, snowshoes, running shoes, etc. – then ski, snowboard, snowshoe or run back down to the finish line.

It’s part endurance challenge, part in-bounds adventure, and completely customizable to participants’ personal fitness levels.

The event will also include activities in the base area including uphill demos, a DJ and awards ceremony in the Loft Bar! Then, the fun continues with a winter-wildlife snowshoe hike Sunday morning.
