Sustainability Measures

Diamond Peak Ski Resort is one of many that recognizes global warming and the effects that pollutants have on our environment. These are a few things that Diamond Peak has done or continues to do to join the cause in helping our winters stay cool:

• Installed two ChargePoint electric vehicle charging stations at Diamond Peak (upper lot) and two down the road at the Incline Championship Golf Course (955 Fairway Blvd)
• Installed thermostats in our facilities on automated systems, thereby reducing our energy use by at least 20%
• Continually upgrading our snowmaking system to use newer, more energy-efficient technology including fan guns and low energy HKD snowguns
• Installed Evolution (EVO) boilers for more efficient heating in the Skier Services Building
• Encourages carpooling by offering two shuttles that pick up in Incline Village and the Hyatt
• Installed dual-flush toilets, thermal windows, and new lighting to conserve water and energy
• Installed hydration stations with sensors to encourage the use of reusable beverage containers, which are sold in the food court
• Educates employees and the community through IVGID’s WasteNot programs, “Go Green” Day, orientation, and signage in the Base Lodge
• Encourages recycling by making recycling bins readily available
• Participate in “Take Care Tahoe” regional sustainability campaign
• Controls soil erosion through slope maintenance, BMPs, and water bars to help protect Lake Tahoe water clarity
• Uses environmentally-safe, recyclable and biodegradable containers and utensils in food and beverage outlets
• Printed trail maps using mineral-based “stone paper” resulting in more durable/reusable product and no trees being harvested to produce paper.
• Partnerships with the League to Save Lake Tahoe and their Blue Crew cleanups
• Help us Keep Tahoe Beautiful – Green Tips
• We are committed to helping keep Tahoe beautiful and encourage guests to do their part. Help us conserve: “Drink Tahoe Tap!” instead of bottled water, use reusable beverage containers, carpool or take the free shuttle, and recycle!

Be Bear Aware

Diamond Peak is located in black bear territory. Bears and other wildlife occasionally visit the mountain to forage for natural food and find sources of drinking water. However, unsecured garbage or other unattended food items can attract these animals to the ski resort. For your safety and the safety of others, please be bear aware: do not feed wildlife, securely lock up your garbage, and do not leave attractants in your vehicle (i.e. food, drinks, sunscreen, etc…). Please notify ski patrol if you see a bear on or near the resort.

Drink Tahoe Tap

It is not uncommon to see articles of plastic debris such as bottles in our local and global environment. Plastic water bottles are not necessary at Diamond Peak since reusable containers are available for purchase if you did not bring your own. Clean, fresh and healthy water is delivered to refill stations conveniently located inside the base lodge. Tahoe Tap is far, far, far, more rigorously tested than anything you might buy in a plastic bottle. The world’s best water is right at your fingertips. Go ahead, Drink Tahoe Tap. Drink Like a Fish

Ditch those plastic straws for one made out of paper or simply drink like a fish without a straw. According to the Ocean Conservancy, the average person uses 1.6 straws per day. If the 110,000 skiers who visit Diamond Peak per season pledge to skip the straw, we could save more than 50 million straws every year – and prevent many of them from entering the environment, polluting our waters, and possibly harming wildlife.
