Statement on March 29 incident at Diamond Peak Ski Resort

The entire Diamond Peak Ski Resort family has been deeply affected by a tragedy that occurred Saturday, March 29, 2025, at the resort. We would like to extend our heartfelt condolences to the family of the child involved, to the members of the Sugar Bowl race team, and to the entire Lake Tahoe ski racing community, all of whom have been profoundly saddened by the accident.

Details of the incident response:

At approximately 3:38 p.m. on March 29, medical services were called to respond to a non-skiing accident involving a child. The child in question was climbing on a natural slope adjacent to the Diamond Peak Base Lodge when a large rock became dislodged from the slope and struck the child. The Diamond Peak Ski Patrol responded immediately and provided first aid while emergency services were en route. North Lake Tahoe Fire Protection District and Washoe County Sheriff’s Office staff responded. Despite the emergency medical team’s best efforts, the child succumbed to their injuries.

The Incline Village General Improvement District and Diamond Peak Ski Resort have made support and counseling resources available to staff affected by this accident.

For more information, please contact the North Lake Tahoe Fire Protection District or the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office.
