Winterfest coming to Diamond Peak

This Special Olympics event helps raise critical funds for more than 17,000 athletes in California and Northern Nevada to receive free sports and competition opportunities throughout the year. Here’s how it works: 16 companies buy a team slot for 8 employees, clients or vendors and their guests. These 8 team members are randomly paired with a Special Olympics Athlete and a Celebrity ranging from world acclaimed athletes or a star from your favorite TV show or movie. This 10 member team competes against the other 15 teams in a fun-filled giant slalom race at Diamond Peak. This experience proves to be life changing among all who take part. Camaraderie abounds and new friendships develop as the invited celebrities squash many of the commonly held "star-stereotypes"—they willingly give of their time, and they have a true heart for our athletes and the people who support them.
On Friday March 5th Corporate participants will be at Diamond Peak taking practice runs from 12 to 3pm. In the evening, there is an athlete reception at the Hyatt Regency Lake Tahoe at 7pm followed by a No Limit Texas Shootout Poker Tournament. On Saturday, the opening ceremonies at Diamond Peak commence at 9:30am, and the first Corporate Ski Challenge including Special Olympics athletes, celebrities and corporate participants takes place on Showoff Run beginning at 10:30am. Come and cheer on your favorite team from the Base Lodge deck! After lunch, the Ski Competition continues until 3:00pm. At 6pm, the reception and awards dinner will take place at the Hyatt Regency. In addition to 1st, 2nd and 3rd place awards for best team times, awards will also be given for Most Outrageously Dressed team, Fastest Skier and Best Spill. During the dinner there will be a live auction where you can bid on some great packages. But that’s not where the festivities end. On Sunday March 7th, stick around for Plungefest at 9am. The daring can take part in an icy dip in Lake Tahoe to raise additional funds for Special Olympics, or you can even be a “chicken” and still raise money, or just hang around and watch for the fun of it.
