Poker Run

So why do we call it a Poker Run when there is no running involved? That was the question of the day posed at the Hyatt Poker Run event held at Diamond Peak yesterday. I gained some insight to a possible answer to this question from some Poker Run savvy individuals at the resort but I'll just borrow this definition from Wikipedia:
"A Poker run (also known as a Poker Derby), is an organized event using a motorcycle, boat, car or other form of transportation where participants travel over a predesignated route and, at designated stops on the route, draw playing cards. The object is to have the best poker hand at the end of the run."
(Our "other form of transportation" being skis or snowboards.) And another thing that should be added to this definition is that it's a heck of a lot of fun! I had the pleasure of photographing participants and helping Kayla organize and give out prizes. The top prize, a two night stay at the Hyatt, went to Mike Savarese with 3 Aces, King high. 2nd place went to Phil Zupic with 3 aces, 8 high and Mike Harbors won 3rd place with a pair of Queens and a pair of 7's. (Mike if you're out there, you have a prize to claim!) It was a super fun event and even though it is a "Poker" structured game, we did have some families participate and they had a great time. After the Run, the crowd was entertained by a very talented musician named Jeff Jones. A perfect ending to a super cool day. You must mark you calendars down to attend this event, same time next year!
