First Rain

by dawn
Tuesday, October 7, 2008 4:20pm (PST)

I encountered the first rain we've seen in months while attending a friend's wedding on the beach on Saturday. They say it's lucky to have rain on your wedding day, or is it just ironic? In spite of the circumstances, it was quite a day to remember. We were even treated to a spectacular rainbow over Lake Tahoe after the "I Do's", which was not only symbolic but beautifully magical as well.
So what does that first fall storm mean for the ski season? Will we be surprised with an early winter? With the way the temps have been dipping this week, I would not be surprised, and there's more rain in the forecast for Friday. (Was that a tiny dusting I saw on the mountain tops on the drive in to work yesterday morning, or were my eyes just playing a trick on me?) After 15 years of living at Lake Tahoe, I've seen just about every scenario but I have a feeling it's going to be another big season. I will even go so far as to boldly say, have your ski gear ready, gas in the car and chains if you need 'em. Now that's some good advice you just can take.
UPDATE: Snow is now in the forecast for Friday!
