Diamond Peak is my Oyster!by dawn
I can tell you personally that skiing has been stellar at Diamond Peak lately! The conditions are exceeding my expectations. Better than last year in my opinion. As an “upper intermediate”, as I call myself, I have had the best time exploring areas I’ve not yet ventured into since I began skiing here more than 10 years ago. Honestly, I didn’t have the nerve, but with the conditions as great as they are and many of the easier black diamond runs nicely groomed I’ve taken the literal plunge and went for it. Just yesterday Luggi’s was calling my name. I figured this is one run I really should experience since it is named after our founder Luggi Foeger. It’s a run I should be able to give a personal testimony about, and now I can. And the survey says… it was super fun! I know that is not a technical description, but coming from someone who likes to go fast more than I care about style, it’s a very favorable review. I can also tell you that it was groomed impeccably, nice and wide. It was steeper than most of the runs I brave, but I had no problem navigating it whatsoever. And on a Sunday, I was surprised that I was the only person on the run at the time, no one in front or behind as far as I could see. So if I did end up having any trouble I was comforted by the fact that at least I wouldn’t take anyone down with me if I fell. (Thankfully, I didn’t.) After this week of getting a taste of exploring the unknown I’m left wanting more and wondering why I didn’t do this a whole lot sooner. And as I look at the Diamond Peak map with newer more confident eyes, it feels as if this little resort just became a whole lot bigger, and all that unconquered terrain is now a little more within reach. It’s exciting! Diamond Peak is my oyster. Where will I venture to find my next pearl? |
